THINGS TO DO ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

When you gather to celebrate the fresh start that is turning over the calendar, coming up with things to do on New Year’s Eve can be challenging. If you are hosting a party, it’s already enough work to figure out what will be offered for food and drink,
but there’s no escaping your responsibility to provide some diversions before and after the clock strikes twelve. Nobody wants to be known as the person who threw a party everyone left at 12:15 – the first day of January is supposed to be spent burning the candle at both ends, right? Wondering what to do? Here are a few ideas worth giving a shot:

Make some resolutions

Every person on the planet is going to spend time figuring out a new habit to adopt or an old one to correct, so why not make it into something fun? You could ask everyone to share what they have in mind – a great way to create a buddy system for accountability – but you might have everyone write down five humorous suggestions and take turns drawing your “new routines” to see who ends up with the funniest list. Imagine all the laughs as one of the guys tells everyone he’s going to “learn to cook haggis, buy some pretty underwear, and begin a career as a professional skydiver” in the coming months.

Turn it into a game night

This is great for kids and adults, as it allows them to engage in an activity together before the little ones head to bed. As the night wears on, partygoers can pause to celebrate the New Year and go right back to making sure they sew up Boardwalk or snatch the Pennsylvania Railroad from under everyone else’s noses. Gathering everyone around the table encourages conversation and, whether you’re playing an intense board game or simply shuffling through a deck of cards, that’s what makes a home-based party worthwhile to visitors.

Start your own dance party
Just because you aren’t out at one of the swankiest clubs in town doesn’t mean you can’t have your own bit of hopping nightlife. Hook your MP3 player up to your stereo and push the furniture to the walls. Pull the shades (so no one gets embarrassed) and let fly with your best steps until the sun comes up. For an added bit of fun, tell everyone to bring their own music collections or use a free service like Grooveshark or Spotify to create extensive playlists of the whole group’s favorites. And, once 2011 turns into 2012, cue up “Auld Lang Syne” so you can all pretend to know the words before you get back to busting a move.

Bring in the classics
It might seem dated – and certainly isn’t the same without Dick Clark – but New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is a major tradition for a lot of people. Other companies have come up with shows of their own (such as the Disney Channel) but seeing the ball drop in Times Square brings a certain aura of romance as the production enters its 40th year. Have some extra time and talent with crafts? You could make your own glittery contraption for your home countdown, if you live in a different time zone.

Check out the fireworks

New Year is probably the only event, which every person celebrates to the fullest, irrespective of any nationality or religion. Everyone welcomes the coming year and is positive with the hopes and surprises that the year might bring for them, and with this hope, the Eve is celebrated with such enthusiasm, that at every popular plaza or centre of every city in the world, you can see exquisite and fascinating fireworks, which literally lightens up the entire neighborhood area, and our hearts too. The crazy crowd, screaming 'Happy New Year' to random people, give such a lovely feel, that you must never miss out on an experience like this. Attend the New Year's Eve Parade in the plazas too, where bands of musicians and groups of acrobats, entertain everybody with such finesse that your entire night becomes memorable. This New Year Eve, be a part of such a gathering and feel the joy that unity and love brings on an occasion like this.

Plan a theme party

Where is the fun in a New Year's Eve, without a party! You must have , always been big on these parties, but this year you can try something out of the box, and plan a theme party for your close friends and family members. Yes it's not Halloween, but you can't deny the fun that Halloween costume parties bring, so this New Year try a costume party, for example, an “Angels and Demons” theme party or a “Fairy Tale” theme party. All you will have to do is dress up accordingly and just enjoy the New Year's Eve in a persona you have taken for yourself. A nice escapism right. You can even make some themes for your party, like decorate everything in foamy white spray and fabric, and have an icy theme party, or have a Victorian theme party, with everyone dressed up as Jane Austen characters. This will be a very unique party for the New Year, giving you an opportunity to indulge in something new.

Watch a Rock Concert

New Year is the season of musical concerts and shows, then why not be a part of something that goes with the flow and feel of the occasion. The information for these concerts are out on Internet, way before the season, as per the plannings are done, so you can keep tabs on Internet. Arrange passes for yourself and try to be a little big hearted, for you can also surprise your friends with tickets for them, after all you wouldn't want to go on a music concert without your peeps. Grab some drinks and have a nice musical night. Enjoy your favorite rock concert by your favorite artist, and scream at the top of your lungs, when the countdown for the New Year begins. Friends, fun, food and music, can anything else make your New Year's Eve better than this.

Enjoy a classic opera

New Year also witness some classic events for the Eve, where people, who prefer elegant and traditional activities, can have a gala time of their own, welcoming the new year. The world celebrates the night with music, and following the same spirit, major music and event organizations, arrange for Opera shows, or Symphony nights, where you can enjoy a three act musical opera 'New Year', or a beautiful orchestra session of Strauss' 'The Blue Danube'. How elegant and classy, the event sounds right, and no, it is not only for the elderly ones, any one can make their New Year's Eve, a classic affair.
Book your passes for the evening and welcome the New Year with a peaceful and traditional concept of art.

A New Year's Eve, with some melodious music, swinging your partner in your arms, is a perfect way to celebrate the New Year, and while the countdown begins at the midnight, enjoy the grand toast , welcoming the new year, and its hopes. There is no need to be a perfect dancer for such a night, and neither you need to have any fear of the platform or the gazing eyes, because this is an event you are attending for sheer joy, and for experimenting something new this New Year's Eve. So don't be shy, and swing with the music and the joy of the occasion.

Get the outdoor fun

New Year's Eve falls at that time of the year, when even the weather showers its happiness on you, in the form of snow. Crib about the snow, for the rest of the year, as much as you want, but on this one night, embrace it and have fun with it, as this is the true spirit of the New Year's Eve. Wrap yourselves in your perfect and warmest coat, and boots, and go out with your friends. Have an exciting ice skating round with them. And if you are not good at it, then make cute snow men, in the town plaza, till the midnight stroke prompts you to hug all your friends. You can also indulge in ice hockey or simply witnessing a snow fall. Also try and have a private bonfire celebration with your close friends and greet the cold New Year's Eve. For one night, enjoy the extreme chill in the air, with your close buddies, and have the ultimate fun of the Eve.

Cook, cook and cook more

One more thing which is essentially central to New Year celebrations is the variety of delicacies that you prepare with your family, and stuff yourselves with food and sweets to your limits, in fact more than that. For New Year at least, stop worrying about the calories you are taking and the extra weight you will gain, and enjoy the finger licking dishes of the festival. Baking is one of the most important activity of the entire season, and you would love to give a hand to your mother for preparing all the delicious cakes, cookies, brownies, chocolate dishes. For the Eve, roast the best turkey, cook the finest gravies, and puddings, and serve the most exotic wines and champagnes, this will indeed make your New Year's Eve a perfect night. Cooking will give you a family time with your parents and siblings, while enjoying the tempting dishes would make the day a pleasurable event.

Decorate your house for the New Year

Just like Christmas, New Year is also a day of sharing love, happiness and joy of togetherness, which you can enjoy through decorating your house, together with all your loved ones. Illuminate your house with various beautifully patterned electric lights and bulbs, and also use colorful perfumed candles. Make crafty little things with your children, and siblings, and put them on various places of the house. Hang harvest wreathes, and bells on your doors, to bring on the New Year theme, and also erect a snow man on your porch. Could any other thing bring more a feel of togetherness, than this. This is also a party in its own, decorating your house, while sipping onto your favorite drink with light classical New Year music in the background. Hum it along and have a crafty New Year this season.

Give presents to all your buddies

Sharing love and sharing gifts have always been considered synonymous. Whenever there's a special occasion you give special gifts to the most important people in your lives, be it your family or your friends, so you can do a similar thing on the New Year's Eve for them. Gift them a gift basket, full of New Year delicacies, chocolates or wine, or a package of their favorite music CDs, or Movie DVDs. And if none of this suits your purpose then plan a nice surprise for your special one. Take them out on a surprise New Year Eve dinner or show, while a river cruise is the hottest option of the season. Give some cards, with hand written New Year greetings, and congratulations, and make their day perfect, and yours as well, as “happiness is real when shared”.

A perfect family time

New Year is the holiday season, when you can forget about all other worries, and work tensions for a little while, and just dive into the mirth of festivities and celebrations. Have a perfect family time, on the New Year's Eve, and plan all the activities and things together, like cooking, decoration, making party arrangements and wrapping the gifts for friends. The sense of togetherness during the festival will surely intensify the joy of the day in great bounds, and make your festival a perfect holiday. Share the New Year jokes, songs and old stories, play some nice indoor games keeping you in the spirit of festivities, and share the laughter on the dining table. Flip a DVD in your DVD player, and enjoy the Eve with a glass of wine, and fire in the fireplace, and have a perfect New Year's Eve this season. Call your close relatives and friends over to your place, and this way, everyone that you love, will be with you, on the most special occasion of the year. So have a wonderful New Year's Eve, full of celebrations and laughter.
