Ivanka Trump: First Lady? President-elect Donald Trump is thinking about giving his daughter Ivanka the role of First Lady for at least a year, since his wife Melania is going to stay in New York in order for their son to finish elementary school.
Melania wants to stay in New York until 10-year-old Barron finishes up his final year at a prestigious private elementary school in the city. As of right now, Ivanka is one of several vice presidents at the Trump Corporation, but reports say she is seeking to remove herself from the position because of her father’s upcoming inauguration as the 45th President of the United States on January 20th, 2017.
The most recent President to move into the White House without a First Lady present was Grover Cleveland, who was a single man until he married in 1886. Reports say Ivanka has played a key role in Trump’s campaign for president, and she may be scheming to be his “ceremonial sidekick”. Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have been house-hunting in Washing D.C. Kushner’s father is a multi-millionaire real estate developer, and was jailed in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal donations to the government of New Jersey, Jim McGreevy, who was of the Democratic Party.
The current governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, was a quick supporter of Trump, but he may not have any hope of landing a key job in Trump’s cabinet at this point. The couple attended last month’s meeting with President-elect Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
This meeting was seen as going against protocol, especially while Ivanka was launching her new fashion line in Japan at the time of the meeting. Ivanka and her husband are both considered to be influential figures in the transition team, and the President-elect holds them in high regard. The former House speaker John Boehner recently compared Trump to Teddy Roosevelt, who he said was another “larger than life” character.
